Hi everyone! My name is Maria Abood and I am a junior in the College of Arts & Sciences studying Psychology. I’m originally from Naples, Florida, a small beach-side town, but decided to come north for college in Boston and have loved every minute! Thus far at BU I have been a co-founder of BU’s chapter of Doctors Without Borders, and am now so excited to be working with Student Government to create memorable events that impact our campus long after my term is over. Outside of class and studying, I love exploring Boston with my friends, having my family come visit, and I still get excited every time it snows!
Recently, my good friend and roommate, Megan de Armas, decided to run for Boston University Student Government with the slate OneBU. Having been her roommate throughout the election process, I was inspired by her and the rest of the slate’s tireless efforts and dedication to making a difference in the experience of the entire BU student body, and it pushed me to involve myself in that same mission. This led me to apply for a position as Director of Events, because I loved the idea of bringing our diverse student body together at events that excite everyone.
When I’m not in class or on Stuvi26, you can find me at Student Government office hours! I am so excited to be sharing this position with Thomas Rigal, and know we are going to do everything we can to make it the most memorable year. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time, whether it be about a great event idea or just to introduce yourself!
The Department of Events is responsible for planning and executing any and all events that Boston University Student Government conducts throughout the school year. During the 2020-2021 school year, we plan to create events for the Student Body in hopes to increase participation, school pride, and fun on campus. As a team, we will propose different events and set up all the logistics for each event including but not limited to venue, food/catering arrangements, music, etc. The Department of Events have a lot of things planned for Student Government and we can't wait for the BU Community to experience it all!
Hey everyone! My name is Thomas Rigal, and I’m a senior in Questrom studying Finance & Management Information Systems. I’m originally from Iowa City, Iowa. (Yes, people actually live there, crazy I know). With that being said, it is my honor to be serving as your co-Director of events. Maria and I have some amazing things planned for this upcoming year. On campus, I’m co-President of Entreprenur’s Club, President of the Chi Phi Fraternity, and the founder of TEDxBU. You can definitely find me at the BUild Lab during most hours of the day, probably with Oliver too.
Ever since arriving at BU one of the things that inspired me most was the motivation and sense of community I’ve seen across campus. This is what ultimately brought me to getting involved with Student Government, and specifically the Events Department. I plan to further garner that sense of community, and bring the student body closer together!
Please feel free to reach out if you would like to suggest an event, would like the support of Student Government in organizing one, or just want to talk!
